Remote Offices
Traditionally, 5250 remote offices were connected to their home AS400 through a remote controller that dialed in via a modem on a dedicated "leased line." The monthly leased line charges made this a very expensive solution. Additionally, the data was encapsulated during transmission, which slowed down the connection.
Today, you can connect your remote offices via the Internet with products like the Bosanova e-Twinax Controller and the I-O 5794ip Remote Controller. In addition to Internet access, the controllers allow you to eliminate SNA from your LAN and provide TCP/IP support.
You can also use these "Remote" Controllers to preserve your investment in your Twinax equipment since you can connect Twinax devices and do not need a Twinax host.
